Our Early Childhood Education program recognizes that every child has a distinctive learning style. That’s why we use a range of teaching strategies to engage a student’s unique gifts and help them to learn more effectively. We balance the academic curriculum with creative playtime. This program incorporates techniques drawn from the Washington State Early Learning and Development Benchmarks, and is a proven, healthy approach to raising well-rounded children.
We recognize that developmentally speaking, the preschool years are crucial. Even with our youngest students, parents and teachers alike understand that literacy and a love of reading is the engine of academic success. We are committed to developing our students’ fluency in reading, even as we foster their love of the written word. We delight in introducing our kids to the world of books, beginning with our infants and toddlers. It’s never too soon to read to a child, and both our staff and our children look forward to our reading times.
Students of every age need exposure to the arts. Arts programs help children to more effectively communicate, to have a better attitude about school and learning, and to increase their overall academic achievement. Our Music and Movement curriculum includes singing, playing, and dancing. Singing songs with children teaches them about rhythm, tones, and lyrics, which help develop auditory discrimination. Playing instruments aids in fine motor development and gets the creative juices flowing. Creative movement and dance helps children learn balance , coordination, rhythm, body awareness, and enriches their educational experience. But our Music and Movement program is more than just an academic exercise...when it’s song and dance time, our kids loose a host of little stamping feet, tambourines and tiny cymbals.
