Dress Code
(for Elementary and Middle School)

Cornerstone Christian School's dress code might be summarized: neat, clean, and in good taste.

We believe there is a definite relationship between good dress habits, good work habits, and proper school behavior. Good taste in dress is an important part of a wholesome Christian school atmosphere, and clothing need not be expensive to be in good taste. Clothing is to be consistent with the school's stated objectives, and such clothing is to be worn at school or at any off-campus, school-related activities.

The following guidelines are to be used in determining the suitability of clothing worn to school:

  • Clothing must not attract undue attention to the wearer or interrupt the focus on learning in classrooms
  • Clothing must not advertise any type of alcoholic beverage, drugs, rock group, radio, stations, or movies
  • Clothing must not have off-color, questionable sayings or promote violence, or make reference to magic or the occult
  • Midriffs must be covered at all times
  • Clothing must fit, according to generally-accepted adult standards. Pants must fit at the waist and be size appropriate
  • For safety reasons, footwear must be firmly on the foot – flip flops, or slip-ons for the beach are not allowed at the elementary campus
  • Shorts are permitted

The following types of clothing are not acceptable:

  • Tank tops and sleeveless dresses and shirts
  • Backless, low cut, or spaghetti strap dresses or tops
  • Short shorts or cut-offs – walking shorts are allowed, but the bottom hem of the shorts must be closer to the knee than to the buttocks
  • Excessively short skirts (more than 4 inches above the knee) or skirts with slits which come more than 4 inches above the knee at all times
  • Pants with frayed hems
  • Tight, form fitting clothing including tops, blouses and pants
  • Sweat pants or athletic shorts
  • Caps and hats are not to be worn in the buildings or in Chapel, by either girls or boys

Jewelry: Male students are not allowed to wear earrings, and no students are allowed to wear body-pierced jewelry at school or school-sponsored activities.

Hair: Students are asked to not dye their hair unnatural colors attracting undue attention to themselves.

Required Concert Dress Code for all students: (music programs, Christmas Concert, etc.)

  • Plain black longsleeve tops, no sweatshirts please
  • Kahki colored, or lighter, Docker "type" slacks
  • Dark shoes, preferably black

The school administration attempts to enforce these guidelines without over-emphasizing the issue – but the dress code will be enforced.

Students whose dress is deemed inappropriate by anyone in authority at the school will be sent to the office, where alternative clothing will be provided if the student does not have something to change into... or the parent may be called to provide alternative clothing. Any work missed while the student is changing will be considered unexcused and may not be made up.

The above dress code is in effect on Cornerstone Christian School's campus – in the buildings and on the grounds – during school hours and at all school-sponsored events.
